You Are More Beautiful Than You Think

Dove has done it again with this video that speaks to the heart of the beauty issue for women and girls.  In this three-minute ad, a forensic artist sketches people based on their own perceptions of themselves and then again how others see them.  It brought me to tears.

Dove says that only 4% of women worldwide think they are beautiful.

We have been trained to see and obsess on our flaws, and it is time to retrain ourselves to appreciate the things we like about ourselves and others.  What we focus on expands.

Challenge yourself to start looking for the good.  I know how hard it can be, and I also know it’s our choice.  For every time you cut yourself down, find five things about yourself that you like.  I suggested this to a group of about 100 high school girls from Connecticut last year, and one of them just wrote me saying that they still do it!

This video brought me to tears because I know I am my worst critic.  I would never judge my friends the way I do myself, and it’s a constant process of learning how to give myself the same grace as I do those around me.  The change starts with us.  As we start to embody a love for ourselves, we encourage healthy self-esteem in others as well.

Thank you, Dove, for another creative and heartfelt message.  4% no more.

This is one of the most powerful video’s I have seen in a long time and brings so much truth for it’s short time.

    Thank you

Wow so revealing about how we focus on our perceived shortcomings. We obviously come across much more open, friendly and beautiful than we think.

Thank you for reminding me that we are all beautiful. I found the short video very telling about how we as women judge ourselves as not being attractive when in reality we really are attractive. Thank you Dove. It makes me proud to be a WOMAN in the 21st Century.
