Exhausted

Day number nine and I am absolutely exhausted.  I have been in a flow in my business that has me wanting to work more hours than I can possibly stay awake, and I still want to honor my commitments to my friends, my health, and you through this blog.  So here I am at 11:25, coming in at the final hour.

Lesson #9: Even, or especially, when in an exciting time where the roller coaster is working for you, be mindful of your energy and your commitment to self care.  When you’re weary, the creative flow slows.

I am hesitant to talk about balance here, as I feel that balance is always a carrot we hold in front of our truth.  When we’re searching for balance, we’re searching for a constantly fleeting moment, and when we find it, it only lasts until the scale inevitably tips.

Instead, I commit to being mindful of what my body is telling me from moment to moment.  Now, mine is saying: Slow down and remember your first commitment – the one that is and always needs to be to yourself.  I am of no help to the world around me when I am run down.

If I may go off on a bit of a tangent, I observe that this state of being run down is what has our society constantly reaching for things outside of themselves to make them happy.  When we are stressed, we reach for a beer or glass of wine.  Tired?  A coffee.  Stressed?  A pill.  Sad? A new pair of shoes or pint of Jerry’s – pick your poison.

It is when we are healthy, rested, and centered that we find ourselves in a place of needing nothing more than to simply be – alone or in the gift of love’s many expressions.

And that’s all I have for now.

Good night.
